Abstract
Sponsored by a host of Natal persons in regional governments, a certain academic coterie and the English press, the Indaba is constantly resurfacing as a rational option to the deepening impasse in South Africa. The education report translates the spirit and agenda of the Indaba into educational planning for social change. I question the rationality of the education recommendations and what social changes their implementation are likely to effect. This paper holds that the proposals safeguard inherited social privilege and offer upward mobility to very few of the underprivileged.
