ABSTRACT
Cultural studies has been dramatically internationalised recently, and a new theoretical framework is accordingly demanded. International cultural studies should have its own theoretical platform corresponding to its internationality. Starting from how to respond to the thesis “cultural imperialism,” this article categorises existing cultural studies into two approaches, the “modernity” and “post-modernity” moments, analysing their advantages and disadvantages respectively. A third approach, “globality,” transcends the previous two, the tenet of which is a philosophy of global dialogism that sublates (aufheben) both modernity and postmodernity simultaneously.
