Abstract

Instrumentation is a multidisciplinary subject and there is a lack of a strongly-defined and a widely-known structural classification for the fundamentals of instrument science and technology. Sufficient and proper teaching in the subject is unlikely to occur unless a definite image of instrumentation as a systematized discipline like other engineering disciplines is established.

In this paper, trends in modern instrumentation are presented and an attempt is made to define instrumentation from the point-of-view of teaching. Course modules which may form an under-graduate degree programme in instrumentation are mentioned. Certain views and directions regarding the post graduate education are also given.
