A New Principle of Phase-Detection Helps Improve the Phase-Noise Properties of Phase-Locked Oscillator

Abstract

A new phase-lock system which remarkably reduces the VCO phase-noise with respect to the clean reference is described. Unlike the conventional system it allows much wider loop-bandwidth together with low-settling time. The superiority of this over the existing design is corroborated by the experimental data presented here.
