Abstract
Due to tremendous advances in the last few years, distributed control systems offer attractive cost benefit ratio even for traditional process industries. This paper analyses the state of distributed control systems today and discusses how they can help in traditional process industries. Some ideas on how to successfully retrofit a distributed control system into a running process plant have been given, citing concrete examples of Sugar Glass and Cement industries.
