Abstract
The paper deals with issues related to production technologies and discusses some specific proposals which can make manufacture of industrial electronic equipment more cost effective.
Main characteristics of electronic equipment manufacture in general and industrial equipment in particular are examined. All relevant critical areas such as incoming component quality issues, problems related to bare printed circuit boards, issues involved in populating printed circuit boards and subsequent functional and environmental tests, final product assembly and its performance test etc. are analysed and specific recommendations have been proposed to help improve manufacturing efficiency and to enhance product quality.
Problems encountered on account of “low volume high variety” nature of industrial electronics systems market are described and suggestions are given for specific policy consideration.
