Abstract
Atmosphere is always having a small fraction of air in ionic form. Air ions can also be produced by electronic systems. An instrument has been designed to measure these small air ions in atmosphere (Operating range: 50–250,000 ions/cm3 for both negative and positive ions). The technical details regarding the design of a condenser chamber and electronic circuit of the instrument and its calibration technique are discussed in this paper. Some of the field test data collected in the working environment inside a nuclear reactor are also presented.
