P B Vidyasagar

Pandit Bhalchandra Vidyasagar has been engaged in teaching and research work in the Department of Physics, University of Pune since 1979. Currently he is working as the Director, Bio-informatics Centre, University of Pune. His research contributions are in the field of biophysics and medical physics and are recognized at both the national and international levels. He has made significant contributions in study of photosynthesis using thermoluminescence technique. He has participated extensively in the programmes organized by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Lok Vigyan Sanghatana and Marathi Vigyan Parishand towards popularization of science. He is the author of several research papers and scientific articles both in Marathi and in English. He has delivered talks on All India Radio (AIR), made films, and has written eight books. He has been awarded the Dr M W Chiplonkar award (1996) by the Indian Physics Association, Best teacher award (1998) by the University of Pune, and an associateship by the Abdus-Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. He is a member of the Institute of Physics (UK). His biography has been included in Marquis 15th &18th Edition of ‘Who's who in the world’.
