Abstract

In this paper, the MS Windows OS with respect to its file system has been studied briefly. The paper describes one approach towards solving the problem of securing the Windows Partition and File System without getting into the kernel of the OS. The paper also describes a variation of the popular Blowfish Algorithm to enhance the entropy and the degree of difficulty in carrying out Cryptanalysis. The paper shows an approach that could be taken towards securing weak file systems and partitions in any OS without getting into the programming code of the kernel. Throughout the paper, references to the Windows OS imply the Microsoft Windows 9x/Me Operating Systems. The concepts described in the paper have been coded into working and usable software, presently undergoing beta testing at Military College of Telecommunication Engineering.
