Abstract
The paper is written keeping in mind the popularisation of the research of intelligent robots among the science and engineering community of India. The technical details of a sample intelligent robot PIONEER 2DX has been elaborated with its client-server architecture. Developments of various mobile robots and robotic vehicles by various laboratories and companies have been reported along with their capabilities and limitations. At the end intelligent test of different robots is highlighted. Some typical examples and informative tables have been listed.

Dibyakishore Pattanaik has completed his Masters degree in Electronics form Sambalpur University in 2001. His area of interest is Machine Intelligence and Robotics. He is now a research scholar in a major research project sponsored by UGC on “Machine Learning and Perception using Cognitive Methods”. He has two research papers in national journals and conferences.
S Patnaik
Srikanta Patnaik completed BSc (Engg) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from University College of Engineering, Burla (Sambalpur University) in 1989 and obtained his master's degree in Communication Systems Engineering from the same institute in 1993 and PhD (Engg) from Jadavpur University in 1999. He was working as Reader and Head in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, University College of Engineering, Burla and recently he has joined as Professor in the Department of Information Technology, FM University, Balasore. His area of interest is Machine Intelligence and Soft Computing, He has published more than 80 papers in international and national journals, conferences and symposiums. He has published few books on Information Technology.
