Abstract

A turbidimeter was designed and constructed to determine the degree of dispersion associated with different treatments of soil samples in suspension. Measurement is based on the transmission of light through a dispersed soil suspension. The experimental array of light source, collimators and voltage transducers (phototransistors) is described. Experimental data indicated that calibration has to be done for groups of soil colours for quantifying suspension concentration. The instrument described can be considered as a relatively inexpensive and useful tool to obtain quick and accurate data on the influence of different factors on micro-aggregation, flocculation and dispersion of soil particles in suspension.
