ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper is to analyse current viewpoints towards the locative in Bantu mainly in respect of the semantic and syntactic features thereof. It will be shown that whilst locatives are satisfactorily described on the morphological level, many problems still seem to be unsolved as far as the semantics and syntax are concerned. Although no final conclusions are arrived at it is hoped that this paper will constitute a basis for further discussion of the semantics and syntax of locatives in Northern-Sotho in forthcoming editions.
