Abstract
An attempt is made in this contribution to identify some of the linguistic devices according to which definite and indefinite noun phrases are formally distinguished from each other in Northern Sotho. The discussion is directed mainly towards certain interrogative structures, since there are indications that these structures could reveal how the definiteness: indefiniteness-distinction manifests itself formally in the grammar of this language.
