Abstract
Using Siwisa's short stories as exemplification, I investigate the misconception currently existing with regard to the difference between the Xhosa short story and the essay. The main objective is to indicate the relationship between these two subgenres and to explain how the misconception could have come about.
Aan die hand van Siwisa se kortverhale as voorbeelde word die wanopvatting wat tans bestaan oor die verskil tussen die kortverhaal en die kunsopstel, ondersoek. Die hoofdoel is om die verwantskap tussen dietwee subgenres aan te dui en om te verduidelik hoe die wanopvatting moontlik ontstaan het.
