NM Khaketla as the first woman in the promotion and development of Sesotho literature

Abstract

The paper seeks to discuss NM Khaketla as a pioneering or the first woman in literacy circles and to portray how her participation in these circles contributed to the promotion and development of Sesotho literature. The term ‘first’ as used in conjunction with a person refers to someone who has done something repeatedly and in an outstanding fashion. Literacy refers to having the ability to read and write. Khaketla’s involvement in basic education, high culture and higher order thinking helped her to contribute to the development and promotion of literature. Her literacy skills earned her awards and the establishment of a relationship with the printing press.
