Abstract

Eli nqaku liza kusebenzisa ingcingane yokukhumbula nengundoqo kolu phando ukuphicotha ukubaluleka kweenkumbulo kwiincwadi zophando ezichongiweyo zesiXhosa. Eli nqaku libonakalisa indlela ekuthi kube nzima ngayo ukusombulula ityala xa amangqina namaxhoba engakhumbuli kwanto ngesiganeko solwaphulo-mthetho, lijolise ekubonakaliseni ukubaluleka kokukhumbula ubungqina ukuze kube lula ukusombulula amatyala olwaphulo-mthetho. Inqaku liza kucubungula ukunyaniseka kweenkumbulo zamangqina, ukuzithemba kwamangqina ekukhumbuleni nokukwazi kwamangqina ukwalatha isaphuli-mthetho nto leyo ethi ikhokelele ekubanjweni nasekohlwayeni kwabo baphule umthetho. Apha kwezi ncwadi kuza kujongwa ifuthe lenkqubo yabacuphi nendlela abathi babuze ngayo imibuzo ukuhlunguza ukukhumbula kweziganeko ekuphandwa ngazo kumangqina. Eli nqaku liza kuthi lidandalazise elubala ukubaluleka kokubuyela kwabacuphi kunye namangqina kwindawo yexhwayelo ukuncedisana nokuba amangqina akwazi ukukhumbula obekwenzekile. Eli nqaku likwatyhila amanzithinzithi abatyholwa abamsulwa abathi bahlangabezane nabo xa kungekho nesuntsu lengqina elikhumbula ebekwenzekile. Ababhali kwezi ncwadi babonakalisa ukuba ulwaphulo mthetho luyenzeka kodwa abophuli-mthetho abohlwaywa ngenxa yokungabikho kobungqina obukhokelela ekubanjweni kwabo. An analysis of memory value in selected isiXhosa detective texts

This article explores the ability of eyewitness memory in identifying the culprit by means of remembering the events that are linked to the crime. In these texts, the authors portray the difficulties of solving crime when there are no witnesses who have a memory of what has occured. This article aims to show the difficulties encountered by victims and falsely accused persons when there is no proper evidence to clear them. This article will use memory, detective, psychoanalysis and cognitive theories as a framework. The chosen texts display experienced and amateur detectives working hard to find evidence that will assist them to apprehend the criminals. The article illustrates how lack of evidence can affect the investigation, and also how the witness’s memory can assist in apprehending the criminals. The detective’s questioning style also plays a vital role in triggering witness memories through probing. The article also proves that revisiting the crime scene may assist in triggering memories concerning the investigation that will assist the detectives to arrest the real criminals. A qualitative research methodology is used, which is descriptive and analytical in nature with the specific aim of showing how these authors had skilfully used memory to acquire evidence and apprehend criminals in their texts.
