Abstract
The concept of a total strategy has recently received a great deal of attention in South Africa. Total strategy is of course a wide concept, embracing various facets, both of an internal and external nature. Deterrence strategy, as part of a total strategy, is however one of the essential components of a total strategic plan, and this article explores the concept of deterrence as applied to the South African situation.
