Abstract

Although the promotion of regional cooperation is an old tenet in South Africa's Africa policy, Prime Minister PW Botha has accorded it a higher priority than previously. The realization of his designs for regional cooperation however face a number of formidable obstacles. This article sets out to examine a number of basic prerequisites for successful co‐operation in Southern Africa and in so doing focusses on various centrifugal and centripetal forces.
