Abstract
The author makes an incisive analysis of West European and Superpower involvement in the African continent, drawing the threads of diverse perceptions, interests and goals through the dominant political issue of this continent; apartheid South Africa. Although the author suggests that the collapse of the white regime in South Africa would be an international catastrophe comparable to that of the Russian revolution, it is submitted that the only feasible role for outside powers is rescuework, damage limitation, and help with reconstruction once the dust has settled.
