The political economy of inflation

Pages 42-56 | Published online: 03 Jan 2007

Abstract

This article argues that inflation cannot simply be defined as a process of steadily rising prices, resulting in the diminishing purchasing power of a given sum of money. Rather, contemporary inflation is seen to have its roots in the revolution in bourgeois political economy after the crisis of 1929–1932 and the particular constraints on capital accumulation in the post‐war period.
