Abstract

The British archives confirm the foundation of the secessionist rumours that circulated in South Africa during the 1950s. Indeed, the Union Federal Party secretly asked for British aid for a possible secession of Natal from the Union. On the threshold of decolonisation, the case of the Natal loyalists stands out from the usual settler reaction to the advancement of African interests.
