Abstract
Motivated by the theoretical prediction of the existence of alternate chains in the case of one-dimensional Cu-Ni compounds the current state of these heterobimetallic compounds is described. A classification of Cu-Ni heterobimetallic compounds based on the magnetic properties of the respective metal is considered, namely d-d, p-d, d-p, and p-p classes (d is for diamagnetic and p for paramagnetic). These four classes of Cu-Ni compounds are further classified by structure and composition. Based on these classifications representative examples for each group are described from a structural perspective as well as magnetic properties. Additional information is given on the typical preparative methods.
