Abstract
Transition-metal tetrafluoroborates are useful starting materials for the synthesis of fluoride-containing coordination compounds. In the presence of certain ligands first-row transition metals yield compounds of stoichiometry ML4F2 (monomers), M2F2 (ligand)n (anion)2 (dimers), M4F4 (ligand)12 (anion)4 (tetramers), M2F3 (ligand)m (anion) (polymers), and MF2 (ligand)2 (polymers), depending upon the metal used, the particular ligand, and the solvent system.
