Abstract
The coordination and reaction chemistry of eight-membered polyphosphorus heterocycles is outlined with particular focus on a versatile tetraphosphoxane P4O4 ring system. This ligand' s coordination modes includes an exo-ditopic form which has been used to prepare a mixed-valent family of heterobimetallic complexes with conserved cage structures suitable for the study of metal-metal interactions.
