Pages 21-40 | Published online: 04 Jun 2010

Abstract

A status report of political differences and similarities among Latin American nations is the essence of this paper. The author describes increasing differentiation between nations along three dimensions: the level of relative development, the level of national viability, and the level of internal social integration. These factors are interpreted so as to shed light on the occurrence and future of democracy in the region.
