Abstract
Vojvodina is a culturally heterogeneous region in North‐East Yugoslavia which faces serious rural employment problems. The cultural and natural heritage of the region has considerable potential for the development of rural tourism. In turn, rural tourism offers prospects of economic growth, the conversion of non‐market to market goods, and the revalorization of rural values. The failure to realize this potential lies in the paucity of tourist and cultural animation. This is illustrated by a series of case studies.
