A History of the Scottish Liberals and Liberal Democrats

by David Torrance, Edinburgh, Edinburgh University Press, 2022, 234 pp., £63.74/£18.59, ISBN 9781399506380 (hbk), 9781399506397 (pbk)

Notes

1 David Dutton, A History of the Liberal Party in the Twentieth Century, (Basingstoke, 2004), has Scotland woven throughout the book and Chris Cook, A Short History of the Liberal Party: The Road Back to Power, (Basingstoke, 2010), does not have Scotland featured much in the index but is covered within the narrative. Torrance seems annoyed that there is not much focus on the separate organizational structure in Scotland, but a moments reflection on the history of the Liberal Party in the period after World War One, simply because of disproportionate numbers of Scottish prominent individuals, MPs and party leaders would be hard put not to mention Scotland.
