Abstract
Candidates for a new Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA) validated Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) primary degree at Moray House were observed in a variety of situations over a selection day by teams of trained assessors drawn from staff in college and neighbouring education authorities. The Criteria of Teacher Selection (CATS) project team had, by invitation, outlined procedures in a confidential manual which also defined levels of performance on the criteria on which selection decisions were based, namely, oral communication, written communication, commitment to teaching, interpersonal skills, practical teaching ability and depth of character.
