ABSTRACT

This paper reflects on the importance of equipping the world's youth with the necessary information and skills to reduce the risk of HIV infection. Schools are encouraged to meet the challenge of providing HIV education for young people. To accomplish this educational goal, school personnel need adequate and appropriate in‐service training. A model is provided from the United States for planning and implementing an HIV in‐service program for school personnel. A university is used as a regional site where HIV in‐service training is carried out through the co‐operation of local school administrators, health agency representatives, and health education faculty. Several means of evaluation are described, including the formulation of a school action plan for HIV education.
