New Labour and Teacher Education in England and Wales: The first 500 days

Pages 221-230 | Published online: 03 Aug 2010

This paper examines the policies and practices of the previous government's so-called 'reform' of initial teacher education and the way in which one creation of these reforms, the Teacher Training Agency, has now begun adversely to affect provision for in-service education. The Agency's simplistic approach to teachers' professional development is identified, with the recommendation that the new Labour government should urgently review the effectiveness of the Teacher Training Agency.
