Towards a Professional Standard for Dutch Teacher Educators

SUMMARY

A standard for teacher educators has been developed in the Netherlands to serve as an instrument for their professional development. The Dutch Association of Teacher Educators (VELON) took the initiative to develop this standard for the 'teachers of teachers'. In this article we place this development in a wider context, linking it to the literature. The launchpad for the development of the standard in the Netherlands are the teacher educators themselves and we give the five important starting points used in the development of the standard. The actual content of the standard for Dutch teacher educators is an important part of the article. We also discuss some of the dilemmas we were confronted with during the process of developing the standard and we present our plans for the future, linking these to developments in other countries, especially in the United States, and placing it in an European perspective.

Aux Pays-Bas, une norme est développée à l'intention des formateurs des enseignants, destinée à servir d'instrument à leur développement professionnel. L'Association néerlandaise des formateurs d'enseignants (VELON) est l'initiatrice de cette norme pour e enseignants des enseignants f . Cet article place ce développement dans un contexte plus large, en s'appuyant sur la bibliographie. Les formateurs des enseignants constituent la e plate-forme de lancement f du développement de la norme aux Pays-Bas, développement dont nous donnons les cinq principaux principes de départ. Le contenu effectif du standard pour les formateurs d'enseignants néerlandais constitue une partie importante de cet article. Nous traitons également certains des dilemmes auxquels nous nous sommes trouvés confrontés lors du développement de cette norme et indiquons nos plans pour l'avenir en nous référant aux développements que connaissent d'autres pays, particulièrement les Etats-Unis, et les plaçant dans un contexte européen.

RESUMEN

En Holanda se está desarrollando un modelo de formación de profesores que se convierta en instrumento para su desarrollo profesional. La iniciativa de crear este modelo dirigido a los 'profesores de profesores' parte de la Asociación Holandesa para la Formación del Profesorado (VELON, de sus siglas en neerlandés). En este artículo insertamos dicho proceso de creación en un contexto más amplio, relacionándolo con los demás trabajos realizados sobre el tema. Para crear este modelo en Holanda se ha partido de los formadores de profesores. En el artículo exponemos los cinco criterios básicos aplicados en la creación del modelo. Gran parte del artículo está dedicada a describir el contenido en sí del modelo holandés para la formación de profesores. Tratamos asimismo algunos de los dilemas a los que nos enfrentamos al dar forma al modelo, además de exponer nuestros planes para el futuro, relacionándolos con los trabajos llevados a cabo en otros países, sobre todo en Estados Unidos, y situándolos en una perspectiva europea.

In den Niederlanden wurde eine Norm für die Lehrerausbildung entwickelt, die als Instrument für deren beruflichen Werdegang dient. Der niederländische Verband von Lehrerausbildern (VELON) ergriff diese Initiative zur Entwicklung dieser Norm für die 'Lehrer der Lehrer'. In diesem Artikel wird diese Entwicklung in einen breiteren Kontext gestellt, der eine Verbindung zu einschlägigen Literatur herstellt. Die Initiatoren für die Entwicklung der Norm in den Niederlanden sind die Lehrerausbilder. Wir listen hier die fünf wichtigen Ausgangspunkte für die Entwicklung der Norm auf. Inhaltlich ist die Norm für niederländische Lehrerausbilder ein wichtiger Teil des Artikels. Wir diskutieren auch über ein paar Dilemmata, mit denen wir im Verlauf der Entwicklung der Norm konfrontiert wurden. Ferner teilen wir unsere Pläne für eine künftige Verbindung dieser Entwicklung mit den Entwicklungen in anderen Ländern mit, im besonderen in den Vereinigten Staaten, die wir in eine europäische Perspektive einordnen.
