Changes in Student‐teacher Thinking

Summary

During a course of teacher‐training an investigation was carried out regarding the question: “Do changes occur in teacher‐anxiety and teacher‐concerns of students, and what are the nature and causes of these changes?"

To this end questionnaires were completed by the students at the beginning and the end of the course and interviews and personal reports from six students were studied. In this way it was possible to get a matching between the quantitative results of the questionnaires and the qualitative data of the interviews and the reports.

This matching has been given shape in a description of the development of the individual students. This description is given in terms of changes in the ‘subjective educational theory’ of a student. Using the concept ‘subjective educational theory’ it is possible to develop a general framework by which a more systematic investigation of changes in students can be carried out.

Durant une année de formation des professeurs une recherche a été faite concernant les questions suivantes.

Les préoccupations et les soucis des étudiants quant à l'enseignement changent‐ils au cours de leur formation initiale?

Quelle est la nature de ces changements éventuels et quelles en sont les causes?

A cet effet les étudiants ont rempli au début et à la fin de leur formation initiale deux questionnaires et une étude a également été faite des interviews et des comptes rendus personnels de six étudiants.

De cette façon il a été possible de comparer les données quantitatives des questionnaires aux données qualitatives des interviews et des comptes rendus. Cette comparaison a été effectuée sous forme d'une description de l'évolution des étudiants. Cette description a été faite en termes de changements opérés dans la “théorie subjective de l'enseignement” de l'étudiant. En utilisant ce concept il est possible de développer un cadre général permettant des recherches plus systématiques quant aux changements opérés chez les étudiants.
