Sex‐test Interactions in the Measurement of an Integrated Process Skill: the sex‐gender hypothesis

Pages 193-204 | Published online: 03 Aug 2006

Abstract

The sex‐gender hypothesis predicts that males will perform better on items containing masculine content and girls will score higher on feminine content items. The hypothesis is tested with data from a training study intended to improve the ability of 11‐year olds to design a controlled experiment. The findings provide weak support for hypothesis. Implications for the assessment of instructional programmes are identified.
