Abstract
The development of Canada's statistics in this field is outlined in the context of parallel work at the international level. Some international comparisons are then made at the aggregate level, and recent Canadian data are used to provide a profile of the country's international transactions during the 1980s. The figures show that Canada's services deficit increased noticeably during this period. Payments exceed receipts with major partners and in most major categories; and like most large countries, Canada's share of services trade in national output has not changed greatly from the beginning of the decade.
