Processes in handwriting: A case for case

Abstract

We present a case study of a right-handed patient with a left parietal lesion of vascular aetiology. His reading and oral spelling were intact, but he displayed a severe deficit in handwriting in which production of lower-case letters was significantly more impaired than production of upper-case letters. We analyse not only the accuracy of his written production of various stimulus materials in various tasks but also its temporal characteristics. Both of these aspects of performance indicate a selective disruption of retrieval of information from physical letter codes.
