Notes

1. Thanks are also owing to Dr Nollaig Whyte and Dr Michael Maier who, through their respective positions in the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Tavistock and the London Division supported this joint conference which brought together the approach of a predominantly psychodynamic training organization with the hitherto narrowly biological scientific programme of an important section of the College. In addition, Caroline Garland and Francesca Hume led clinical workshops on the evening prior to the Conference for those who wished to take a closer look at the nature of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in the treatment of patients suffering from chronic, treatment-resistant depression, as part of the Tavistock Adult Depression Study.
