Abstract

In this paper, TC4 alloy/304 stainless steel explosive welding composite plate is employed as the interlayer to achieve the connection of TC4 alloy and 304 stainless steel by laser doublepass welding. During the welding process, the unmelted TC4 alloy and 304 stainless steel are retained on the interlayer as the diffusion barrier to prevent the metallurgical reaction of Ti and Fe elements. Therefore, it can not only improve the interfacial organisation, but also enhance the mechanical properties of the joint. There are no Ti–Fe brittle intermetallic compounds at the joint through the XRD. The tensile failure occurs on the unmelted TC4 alloy side of the interlayer, and the maximum tensile strength of the joints can reach 840 MPa.
