Abstract
Effects of laser shock peening (LSP) on laser-welded aluminium alloy joints filling Al + 1.0 wt-% CeO2 were investigated. Porosity ratio, microstructure, residual stress, hardness, tensile strength and fracture morphology were evaluated. Double-side LSP decreased the porosity ratio, refined microstructure, relieved the residual compressive stresses and increased the micro-hardness and tensile strength of the welds. Interaction between porosity and residual stress was also illustrated.
