Leisure Patterns of Young Adults in Britain and the Role of the Youth Service

Pages 179-194 | Published online: 27 Mar 2012

ABSTRACT

The Youth Service in Britain has been challenged by the Government to justify its claims on public funds by setting out its unique contribution to the education and socialisation of young people. This article considers research evidence yielded by a series of studies, which sheds light on the leisure activities and social education needs of post-16s and on the ability of the youth service to offer provision of relevance to this age group.
