Abstract
Many patients have sexual problems and see their doctor as the most appropriate professional source of information and help. To be able to provide this adequately, doctors require training in the subject of human sexuality. The extent to which this training is provided in U.K. and Irish Medical Schools varies enormously from a formal comprehensive course to an ad hoc experience if and when problems arise with individual patients. In most medical schools the departments involved in teaching human sexuality are obstetrics and gynaecology and psychiatry.
