Sex education: A school-based perspective

Abstract

Children and young people need sex education that encourages self-awareness, self-esteem and a sense of moral responsibility. This article offers a definition of sex education and considers the following: the content of sex education in school, home and elsewhere; who should be teaching it; and how it should be taught. The article includes discussion on issues that will arise on gender, identity, sexuality, faith, culture and morality.
