Prostatic disease, its treatment and sexual functioning

Abstract

Prostatic diseases encompass a wide range of pathologies, and are the cause of significant mortality and morbidity in men. While some conditions such as post-gonococcal prostatitis have become rare others, particularly those which are age-related, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic cancer, are increasing. This report reviews the common prostatic diseases and examines treatments, particularly with regard to the effect of treatment on sexual functioning.
