The psychological effects of vasectomy

Pages 265-272 | Published online: 14 Dec 2007

Abstract

Vasectomy is a popular form of permanent sterilization, widely perceived as safe and with minimal side effects. Possible psychosexual or social problems have received scant attention. This paper deals with issues such as post-sterilization regret, psychological and sexual effects, society's attitudes and cultural differences in response to vasectomy. The importance of motivation for the procedure in predicting a successful psychological outcome will be highlighted.
