A bad press for therapy?

Pages 117-119 | Published online: 14 Dec 2007

Abstract

Writing in the Guardian, Fay Weldon (1997) vehemently describes the “curse of therapism” and denounces it as a religion that serves ourselves and worships individuality. She claims: …therapism discards science, whilst claiming to be one. It sees no need for proof, has no time for empirical methodology. Therapism abhors communism, rejects socialism, seeing no solution to human woes through social organisation. It concludes that there is no such thing as society, only individuals and families.
