Abstract

A fast-response vertical alignment liquid crystal display with a positive dielectric liquid crystal is described. The adjacent pixel electrodes in the bottom substrate are driven by opposite voltage polarity to the low operating voltage, and the grating common electrodes are set in the upper substrate and at the centre of the gap of the pixel electrodes. This gives a faster response speed, with an improvement of more than double in rise time compared with that of the normal vertical alignment mode without common electrodes.
