ABSTRACT

Terphenyl carbonate compounds were tested in order to establish their use in formation of SmC mixtures. Miscibility studies were performed and phase diagrams were constructed. The influence of the lateral substitution of rigid core by fluorine atoms was checked. Few of tested compounds forming nematic phase support synclinic order in mixtures. It was also found that compounds forming highly ordered tilted phases cannot be used in SmC mixtures because of strong thermal stability of these phases.
