ABSTRACT

The electro-optical properties of polymer-stabilised sphere phase liquid crystal devices are investigated. An extended anomalous diffraction approach (ADA) has been proposed to show the trend between the transmittance and the electric field, but the model deviates from the experiment in some region. Herein, a corrected model, called depolarisation extended ADA, is proposed to fit the experimental data. Good agreement achieved between the experimental and simulated results. This depolarisation extended ADA will make a significant impact on the optimisation of the emerging sphere phase liquid crystal devices.
