Abstract
Syntheses of nematogen copper complexes using halogen substituted ligands
Coordination metal complexes between copper and different halogen substituted (Cl, Br, I) N-(4-(4′-n-alkoxybenzoyloxy) salicylidene) 4-n-butylaniline have been synthesized. These copper derivatives show mesomorphic properties and exhibit in particular a nematic phase over a wide temperature range. The physical characteristics of all of these compounds are compared and discussed. Special emphasis is given to the effect of the size and the position of the halogen substituents.
