Richard Johnson

Two responses to the article in the last issue on the reorganisation of Australian External Studies by Mick Campion and Patrick Guiton ‘Economic instrumentalism and integration in Australian External Studies’, are published here. The first by Richard Johnson, of the Australian National University, is from someone intimately involved with that reorganisation at the most senior level, having chaired the Committee which designated the new Distance Education Centres. The second is from Malcolm Tight, long time observer and authority on part‐time higher education in the British context.
