Torstein Rekkedal, Director of Research and Development at NKI, analyses the research undertaken into Distance Education in Norway. The Nordic countries have a considerable record in the research field, and Norway in particular has benefitted through government and industrial sector support over a long period. The paper is adapted from an address given at a Conference in Umeå, Northern Sweden, and concludes with the identification of future research priorities
